Lampang – 20 January 2026 – Ngao District has partnered with Thaicom Public Company Limited, forestry agencies, and local community leaders to enhance safety standards for special operations units and volunteer wildfire suppression teams. The collaboration includes training and field testing of the “Globalstar SPOT Gen 4” satellite tracking system at Pong Nong Bua Public Park and in real forest areas within Ngao District. The initiative aims to eliminate communication blind spots and maximize operational safety for personnel working in remote and signal-deprived locations.
On 20 January 2026, a joint research team, together with Ngao District officials led by Mr. Seksan Daengsai, and instructors from Thaicom, conducted a hands-on training workshop to prepare teams for wildfire and PM2.5 response operations. Thaicom provided eight units of Globalstar SPOT Gen 4 devices to be used as primary communication tools in remote areas and mobile network blind spots.
The deployment of Globalstar technology is designed to establish a vital “lifeline communication channel”, linking field operations directly to the district-level command center. Key functionalities include:
Tracking: Real-time route and location tracking to enhance situational awareness and provide reassurance for frontline teams
SOS: Emergency distress signaling for immediate assistance in unexpected situations
Field testing confirmed that the devices performed effectively in near real-time, with location updates synchronized to satellite orbits. Performance was particularly strong in open-sky environments, significantly improving personnel management, incident reporting, and emergency response—ensuring faster, more accurate, and timely assistance.
Moving forward, the special operations teams will deploy the devices throughout the current wildfire season, supported by a structured usage plan, including proper shoulder mounting for optimal signal reception and waterproof protection. This initiative is expected to strengthen operational confidence and reduce risks to personnel tasked with protecting Lampang Province’s vital watershed forests.
