Bangkok – 19 AUGUST 2026 – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), through the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, has partnered with Gulf Space Technology Public Company Limited (GST) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on "Developing Technological Innovation for the Management of Natural Resources and the Environment." The agreement integrates space technology, satellite communications, geographic information systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) to elevate conservation and environmental operations nationwide, under a five-year cooperation framework.
The signing ceremony was honored by Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, signing on behalf of MNRE, and Dr. Piyawat Jariyasetpong, Chief Executive Officer of GST.
Under this collaboration, GST presents Globalstar, a LEO satellite communications solution supporting officers operating in remote areas and locations where terrestrial mobile networks are limited, with a focus on connectivity, tracking, and safety for field operations.
One application is Satellite Wildlife Tracking — for example, fitting devices to elephant collars to monitor the location and behavior of wild elephants, supporting surveillance and reducing the risk of human-elephant conflict, while also advancing conservation and research work. For officer safety, Globalstar satellite connectivity solutions can be applied in a Personal Safety format to track the location of officers or operational teams and send emergency distress signals from areas without mobile coverage. The technology can also be applied to SOS Poles — emergency call posts in tourist and natural areas — allowing visitors to report incidents or call for help in emergencies, especially in remote locations or spots where terrestrial networks do not reach.
These solutions support the Department's missions across patrolling and forest encroachment prevention, wildfire surveillance, wildlife tracking, and the safety of officers and tourists in remote areas, helping to close the communication gap and improve emergency readiness.
The collaboration between MNRE and GST marks another important step in integrating technology to support natural resource conservation, alongside raising officer safety and field operational efficiency nationwide.
